“Broken Words, perfect feelings” – What is Depression like?

wire-and-net.jpg

It’s full.

A heart is filled…

with pain.

It’s full.

A heart is filled…

with confusion.

It’s full.

A heart is filled…

with numbness.

Then it’s empty.

A heart becomes emptiness…

    Incredible picture and incredible words.

I often struggle to put my feelings into words. Lately I’ve thought about turning more to photography and artwork to express myself.

The pictures here on your blog have inspired me to get out and take some more pictures.

    Hi! Katm:

Thanks for your comments. I visited your blog and think your words are beautiful. They were simply authentic and precious. Words, arts, any forms that you can try to express what is going on at the moment are all good. From my perspective, It is significant to experience and to express, although sometimes it is so hard when we have to be with our suffering…

Here are two short stories that I created that I think you might like. If you are interested, here is the link:

I am glad to find your blog, would you mind that I recommend it to my clients? (I don’t call my clients “patients” because I think they are like any other human beings. They just experience inner difficulty more intensively)

Please continue to share your story.

    sincerely,

    Kai-Lin

It is precious feeling of depression to me. However not everyone understands the pain we suffer. It brings me think about: What do you think about mental illness?

If you know a person who is depressed, what do you think about it? Well, you might think poor guy, he is so weak, and he has no strength to control his mind.

We do not treat mental illness as we treat physical illness. Why? Because we do not know much about mental illness, we do not know what causes it, how to treat it.

We are also afraid to admit we have it; we do not want talk about it either. We try our best to hide it.

We do not hide ourselves from cancer, diabetes, and hypertension. We do not think we are weak if we have these physical illnesses. We do not blame ourselves or family members if they have these physical illnesses. We do not feel ashamed about having these physical illnesses. But we do feel ashamed if we or our family members have depression, schizophrenia, bipolar disorders. We blame ourselves for not being strong, not being able to control our mind.

Actually, mental illness is the same as physical illness; it is not what we can control by ourselves. We have to get help or treatment, just like deal with cancer, diabetes or hypertension.

Metal illness is a complicated difficulty, which is caused by genetic and environmental factors. There are chemical imbalance and physical damage in the brain. We can not control it without treatment just as we can not control diabetes without insulin.
